How To Start Building Your Community Online

“There is no power for change greater than a community discovering what it cares about.” — Margaret J. Wheatley

One of the essential ways to create your online existence is by building a community or by contributing or responding to an existing one. I will include both ways of doing that but remember good things take time and so will this, so if you are looking for providing value rather than creating overnight traffic you should read along. I’m not saying it won't help to create the traffic but let's just say its not the major purpose of it. Anyway here are 4 ways to do that:

  1. Answering at Quora:

This is one of the most effective ways in 2019 to building your community as per my knowledge. You might have seen this social networking site when you have asked a question to Google, as that’s what this platform is all about sharing the opinions, thoughts, ideas and much more directly to almost anyone.

It is not just a normal Q&A platform but it has grown much bigger and there are all types of peoples and professionals asking or answering your questions.

You simply need to answer questions of your niche(Sports, Tech, Media, Politics, etc) which are asked by peoples.

I am not saying all of the questions will be easy each time but some of them can be, but whether you know the answers or you have to do a little research to make them this is one of the best ways to explore the areas in your niche and hence making you more educated about things you love to do, so give it a go and make sure you don’t just answer for the sake of answering provide value and correct info and your network may increase over time.

Also, there are a lot of other ways to use Quora for a business like answering about your products/services, etc but I have covered only the major use but make sure to explore if you want to.

2) Facebook Groups/Pages:

There is no better way to communicate with people of your interests than by creating or joining a group at Facebook. All you need to do is to find a group that matches your need for example if your area of interest is social media itself than you might want to look into Hubspot Pages or groups.

Note that you need to send a request and sometimes even answer a few questions(like a reason to join the group) before joining the groups. Also, there is a difference between Facebook Page and Facebook Group.

One of the major differences that you need to keep in mind is that the group has a limit on a number of people who can join it but a Facebook page does not. Also if you have a brand or blog I suggest you should create a Facebook fan page as you don’t want to compromise on the limit of fans/followers.

3) Medium:

This is one of the greatest platform users can have online to share and find the peoples of their interests. The most remarkable thing about Medium is that it lets your blog post be identified across the web which makes it similar to a personal blog.

You can reach your audience by publishing your content and then the audience/readers have a choice to “Recommend” which is basically the “like” and bookmark that blog post.

Also, the medium makes it easy to write a well designed and eye-catching blog post but in the end the content matters the most. Also here is the complete guide for Medium from Hubspot.

4) Comment on Posts:

You can really try this one out, it may be quicker than others. Simply start leaving useful and honest comments at the blog posts related to your niche. This is useful as now you are getting the attention of the large number of people who are reading or scrolling through that article. Obviously you won't get 1000 followers if that many are reading that posts but you sure will make a mark in your niche with this.

Also, the blog owners would love to interact with you and might check out your website to know about you and that’s how you will build meaningful relations with ease.

Provide value through your comments and be thoughtful about them don’t just spam like a few desperate ones screaming “Follow me ….Please”.You don’t want that kind of following.

Conclusion:

Above were a few of the ways I have tried and learned about. This is a short guide to get you started.

Also, there are a lot of ways to get traffic as I didn’t mention because the focus was on building community.

I really believe it is important to be surrounded by peoples of your kind so be sure to give it a go. Be thoughtful and do try each one of them to find out for yourself which worked best and make sure to comment below if something new works out for you.

Hope this was helpful !!
